A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays
The Christmas holidays present a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the headlines: unwrapping gifts, feasting on holiday treats, and employing meditation skills to avoid arguing with relatives. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items emerged during the holidays, and if you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter more episodes. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it maintained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio known for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
