Bellingham Has to Eliminate the Nonsense to Earn a Central Place In Tuchel.

For Bellingham to wants to force his way once again into the English best starting eleven, it would be smart to do away with the nonsense. His reaction upon realizing that his number was going up following a night of uneven play in the match against Albania was not good enough.

"I prefer not to blow it out of proportion but I stick to my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect for the squad members who substitute on," Tuchel said. "Decisions are made and you have to accept it as a player."

The midfielder must understand. There was no call for a tantrum. Harry Kane had recently scored to make the national team leading by two in a meaningless fixture, there were six minutes left and the player, who had not played particularly well, was just shown a yellow for bringing down the Albanian striker. It was not a questionable change. In fact it would have been unwise for the manager to keep Bellingham on the pitch because there was a risk Bellingham would make himself ineligible of the initial fixture of the World Cup by picking up a second yellow card.

Drawing Attention to Himself

Yet Bellingham drew all eyes toward himself. There was no disguising the young midfielder's annoyance when he clocked that he was going to make way for another player. He flung his arms in the air and while he exchanged a handshake on his way to the touchline there was no doubt that Tuchel was displeased.

This is the challenge facing Bellingham. He congratulated Marcus Rashford for sending in the ball for Kane to head in his second of the night, but his other actions was self-defeating. It's not like arguing was going to alter the decision. Tuchel has talked so much about honoring the team structure and the value of behaving correctly.

Facing Examination

He, not included in last month’s squad, has been under scrutiny after returning to the team this month. Essentially his place has been in question and he has not done himself any favours through his behavior to being taken off as England rounded off a ideal group stage by defeating a spirited effort from the Albanian team.

The Coach's Plan

As a result opinions are divided on whether England operate most effectively including Bellingham. The performance was inconclusive. Tuchel tried new things from Tuchel at the start. He has given England a clear system lately, building with a holding player, a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder and out-and-out wingers, but the approach changed in this match. Jarell Quansah was given his first cap, Adam Wharton was in the starting lineup internationally and the use of John Stones as an auxiliary midfielder created a similar look to the Manchester club's historic treble-winning side.

A Game of Two Halves

His performance was inconsistent. He created an opportunity for Eberechi Eze in the latter period but often looked trying too hard. He made many rushed, misplaced passes. A pointless clash with an Albania midfielder at the beginning. The team looked disjointed during most of the second period. An opportunity for Albania came after Bellingham gave the ball away. The yellow card occurred when an opponent took the ball to Broja and brought down the attacker.

Squad Strength Shows

In the end the squad's strength proved crucial. Tuchel threw on the Manchester City player, who looked more naturally fitted to the position in which Bellingham operated in the opening period, and Bukayo Saka. Later Saka provided a corner for Kane to score the first goal. This served as a reminder that set pieces will be crucial next summer.

Connection Remains

However, all talk was about Bellingham. The excellence of the winger's delivery for Kane's goal was a little lost amid the drama of the substitution incident. When the match concluded, the focus was on the midfielder. Tuchel walked up to his side and pushed the player in the direction of the away supporters. The bond between them remains intact. Tuchel hasn't decided to abandon Bellingham yet. However, whether Tuchel is inclined to give him the central position remains in doubt.
