Blast Takes 3 Law Enforcement Officers During Property Removal Action in the Verona Area
A trio of officers perished and at least 15 others sustained injuries in an apparently deliberate gas explosion at a farmhouse in northern Italy.

The blast occurred as officers and emergency crews went into the house near Verona to carry out an removal notice for three siblings in their late 50s and mid-60s.
Each of the three victims who died belonged to the Carabinieri force.

One male and one female got detained at the location and a third person who fled subsequent to the explosion was found shortly later. All three have been transported to medical facility.
The blast could be noticed approximately 5 kilometers away and photographs from the location showed the property reduced to a mass of wreckage.
“This is a time for grieving,” stated the Minister of the Interior Minister Piantedosi, who noted that attempts had been made to remove the three family members in the previous occasions.

The president of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, explained the residence was under an court order due to unpaid amounts accumulated by the three owners.
Conflict resolution experts had been sent to engage the family members who had secured themselves into the house. When the police arrived just after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), authorities believe one of the residents set off the detonation.
“Upon entering the house, we were confronted with an act of absolute madness,” local police chief the police commander told the media.

The wounded by the explosion consisted of eleven more officers of the military police as well as three members of Italy's state police and a firefighter.
As stated by the prosecuting attorney, the farmhouse was in a derelict state and had lacked electrical service.
He believed the detonation had occurred on a story above the entrance and informed reporters it was a “intentional and planned killing”. Moments before the blast, he revealed members had “noticed a hissing sound, presumably the propane tanks being turned on”.

“We all knew the situation was dire,” local residents stated to reporters, noting that the three had earlier warned to “blow themselves up” rather than be evicted.
“The explosion had left a ‘terrible, very painful and dramatic toll’.”
